Instant machining quote: upload a drawing, read the price

Short answer: the tool reads your PDF, DXF or STEP drawing, writes the manufacturing routing and costs every step with the machine next to it. It only asks what the drawing does not say: the quantity and the batch size.

What does the tool return?

01

The drawing, read

Dimensions, material, mass, holes, threads and tolerances, with the source of each value.

02

The routing, told

Every step in plain language, the machine, the time, the cost and the running price.

03

A price you can edit

Change a rate, a material, a quantity: everything is recalculated, and the gap with your quote shows up.

How do you get an instant machining quote from a drawing?

A machining quote usually takes several days: the supplier reads the drawing, plans the routing, estimates the times, applies hourly rates and adds overheads. RFQdecoder follows the same reasoning in a few moments, and above all it shows it. You do not get a single number: you get the full recipe behind that number.

  1. Upload the drawing as PDF, DXF or STEP. One view is enough to start; several views give a more complete reading.
  2. Enter the quantity and the batch size, the two facts a drawing almost never carries and that change the part price, because setups are spread over the batch.
  3. The tool reads the drawing: overall dimensions, material, mass, holes, threads, reamed bores and tolerances. Each value says where it comes from.
  4. The tool writes the routing: the starting blank, the cut, each setup, each hole operation, deburring and inspection, with the machine next to it.
  5. The tool costs every step and shows the running price, up to overheads and margin.

What is in the result?

The result reads like a till receipt. On the example housing in 6082 aluminium, 200 parts, you read the material (€7.72), saw cutting (€1.58), the two machining setups (€2.34 and €2.42), drilling, tapping and reaming (€2.84), deburring and inspection (€0.80), then scrap, overheads and margin, for €22.62 (price as of 5 October 2026) per part.

Whatever is not included is written out: on this example, dedicated tooling, subcontracted anodising and shipping. A price that hides what it leaves out looks lower than it is; a price that names it can be compared fairly with a quote.

Which processes can the tool cost?

Eleven families: machining (milling, turning, drilling, tapping, reaming), sheet metal (cutting and bending), stamping and blanking, forging, casting, extrusion, plastic injection moulding, welding and welded assemblies, printed circuit boards, cables and harnesses, and surface treatment on a separate line.

Who is the tool for?

  • Buyers who received a quote and want to know which line to discuss: hourly rate, cycle time, material waste or tooling amortisation.
  • Design engineers who export the STEP file from CAD and want to see what drives cost before freezing the design.
  • Project managers who need a budget without waiting for every supplier.
  • Developers and AI agents: an API and an MCP server are on the way (see API and MCP).

What the tool does not replace

The estimate is indicative. It replaces neither the supplier request for quotation nor the supplier’s commitment on a price. It gives you a detailed basis for the discussion: where every euro comes from, the forgotten step, the rate that is too high, the batch that costs.

What happens to an uploaded drawing?

A drawing is often confidential. An uploaded drawing is used only to produce the estimate you ask for. It is not published, not resold, and not sent to a manufacturer without an action on your part. The free trial asks for no name, no e-mail address and no phone number.

Frequently asked questions

PDF, DXF and STEP drawings, with one or several views. The title block is read separately.

No. The free trial gives 5 estimates per day, without an account.

Machining, sheet metal, stamping, forging, casting, extrusion, plastic injection moulding, welding, circuit boards, cable harnesses and surface treatment.

No. It is an indicative estimate: every line shows its assumption, and whatever is not included is named. It helps you understand and discuss a supplier quote.

The routing is written in plain language precisely so that a missing step is visible. You can edit the lines and the price is recalculated at once.
